All Aboard, The Ferry is leaving

Tuesday June 30, Point Edward Cape Breton. I learned yesterday, that today is the end of the school year here. My hosts are both teachers. It was an easy drive with little traffic from Pictou. But the causeway was busy with a wait for a large boat to go through. I did expect a leisurely pace driving here but it turns out there are impatient drivers here too. On my first night on this Island I stayed at Baddeck Campground. It was a nice family spot with a heated pool and fenced play yard, but with lots of trailers setup like a park.

Luckily I was situated at the end of a row and not much traffic

I didn’t think I should give up Fern’s license plate

Driving east and north from there were absolutely stunning views but a bit foggy over the water. St Ann's Harbour

June 28 and 28 were slower days. We stayed at a cute little Airbnb guest house in Point Edward North Sydney. The hosts live on the property and they were both friendly and helpful. Both high school teachers. In Cape Breton school didn't finish til June 30!  Apparently because of even more snow days than at home!

I crossed this beauty at Bras D’or just before North Sydney

Other than driving around North Sydney checking it out, I drove to Louisbourg and visited the Lighthouse Trail and drove past the Fortress (no pics of it though)

Very pretty and has lots of history. It’s still active and this is the fourth one to stand here throughout Canada’s history. This was the location of very first lighthouse in Canada

I’m sure she’s wondering why I put her up on a block of cement when there was a great rock up the hill behind her. Well I just didn’t think I had it in me to get us both up there. With her unstable legs I would have had to carry her.

I did actually get one shot of the Fortress from the lighthouse side of the harbour

Ferry to Port aux Basques. A 6 hour crossing. Smooth sailing. Arrived on land about 7 pm June 30. We stayed at a campground about 30 minutes north
