July 7 - Boat Tour
The tour company. The gangComing to say hello. Humpback whaleTurquoise reflection is unexpected. A reflection of their silvery grey skin through the clear water Humpback whale tail. This male has been tracked for 3 years through his tail ID. The tail or fluke as it's called is unique to each whale like a fingerprint. And by taking an image of the tail and uploading to a special app, the whale can be identified and tracked if it has been uploaded before. This male's name is Lemer and before July 7 was last seen in Maine in 2024. And then we saw these cute, adorable guys. Of course our boat couldn't get us this close to them. This picture was taken by my daughter, Brooke, in Elliston, a few days previously. In their habitat on Gull Island in Witless BayPuffins in flight and floating in the ocean waiting to spy their favourite food. The Capelin, which they share with other seabirds and whales. A popular dish! And then there was this
"Is you a screecher? 'Deed I is, me old cock, and long may yer big jib draw!”
So after saying this instead of kissing a cod, as this was a fish free ceremony all of us screechers were to kiss a puffin
But she somehow passed by me and I didn't want to fail the mission so called out to get her attentionI got her attention all right. This happened. And that little guy was dripping with salt water Our reward - Screetch!Screeched In!
