When the fog lifts

July 4. We got an early start this morning and headed out to explore the Avalon Peninsula but ran into Newfoundland's  extreme weather, intense rain and dense fog. Thankfully, the fog cleared about the time our exit from the Trans Canada Highway came into view. First stop Dildo

The small towns and villages along this coast are picturesque with intriguing names, Heart's Delight, Heart's Desire and Heart's Content

Heart’s Content has played a significant role in North America’s history. This is where the first telegraph cable reached shore from England to North America in 1865 making this little town a vital link in worldwide communications.

From the end of the road looking back to the village. This house with the turquoise doors belongs to a Warkworth couple who summer here. Funnily enough my sister and brother in law had been visiting them the day before.

Bay de Verde

Another beautiful costal town. This one boasts a brewery. But then I did see breweries in many towns.

Enough rugged coastlines for now. Brigus is our next stop before reaching our Airbnb in Bay Bulls where family plan to meet up.

I found that the previous days of many km of driving, the concerning fatal accident on the highway and the inclement weather had taken its toll and I needed to slow my roll and rest. So, I did. We pulled into the Foodland parking lot in Bay Bulls to get some lunch which I ate at a picnic table there by some shade trees, where I had parked. Then, as it was a couple of hours before we could go into the Airbnb, I transformed the bench cushions into a bed  and we took a nap!
Next edition, Bay Bulls
